Most days are pretty great for Jayne…her 11th birthday was even greater than baseline!
Bacon and eggs for breakfast, chicken pot pie for supper and surprise Dairy Queen ice cream for dessert!
And with every phone call and every gift, she said with sincerity, “Oohhhh, How kind.”
Jayne…you may be spunky, you may be stubborn, you may be all things pre-teen, but your soul’s empathy and kindness are unmatched! Happy, Happy 11th Birthday! We love you from head to toe!
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!
Shopping! “I really love shopping!”
Prom! “Do you think Megan would let us come with her?”
Birthday Party! “Don’t Stop Believin’…Journey”
Brynn came running back upstairs literally scared by what she found downstairs this morning!
Eek! That naughty leprechaun struck again!
Eek! The only one who enjoyed the suggested breakfast of green frosting was Jayne. Upside, she had green frosting all over her lips so we were unable to pinch her until she found a washcloth.
Eek! Caleb looked like a boy amongst men at the first indoor track meet! A strong first mile of the season…5:03. He was not impressed when Mom said, “I guess I will remain the fastest Yokom for another week.” His goal mile time this year is a 4:48 strategically one second faster than Mom’s fastest mile time :) Cannot wait for him to reach his goal!
Eek! Could these two be any cuter? After a fun day of green for St. Patrick’s Day, the birthday Papa and Gramma visiting and a track meet, we closed the day with some swimming, showers and PJs at the YMCA.
Eek! Too.Much.Fun for a Friday!
Mom was treated like an angel on her milestone birthday today :)
I received a new bike helmet and cupcakes made from an expired mix. The cupcakes were a wee bit sticky but still mighty delicious.
Mom also received amazing advice from GG. “Lie about your age.”
Turning 29 “ain’t” that bad!
Spring Break! The kids have the whole week off from school! We had planned to spend the week in Bozeman until a virus, above average temps and a track meet made us come up with Plan B.
First, Brynn had high temps, sore throat and lethargy the whole week prior. Luke had a fever and sore throat mid week. Mom had Dad even take Brynn into the doctor on the Friday prior to departure to make sure we were not missing something. Diagnosis. Virus.
Second, Bozeman had below average snow fall and above average temps. Would the snow be worth driving for? We looked for another road trip option, but planning a March trip last minute did not pan out.
Third, Caleb got a surprise track meet added the Friday of spring break. If he was back by Wednesday practice, he could run in the meet.
So with our ibuprofen, spring jackets, running shoes and adequate treats packed we were off for a Bozeman four day get-a-way!
Day One: Mark with a new tummy ache and Brynn with a continued virus chose to spend the day with Mom instead of skiing.
Turning our lemons into lemonade, we dropped Dad (who now had a head cold and was on ibuprofen), Caleb, Luke and Jayne off at the mountain. On the way down the mountain, the topper in Brynn’s words went “poof.” Back up the mountain we found Dad. Dad’s diagnosis “the topper is not salvageable.”
Dad refused to pose with the topper noting “too soon” to find it funny. The topper was full of stickers of the places we have visited. Jayne stated, “it will always have a special place in my heart.”
Determined to turn our day around, Mark, Brynn and Mom put the spiral ham for supper in the crockpot and headed down to the pool where we planned to hot tub our ailments away.
“Spa temporarily closed until 1 pm”
Sigh.
Day two: Everyone went skiing. All on ibuprofen except Caleb. Caleb, Luke and Jayne were skiing the bowls when Luke had a garage sale. Caleb took off his snowboard and asked Jayne to hold it so he could help Luke. Jayne, in her words, “hands got tired,” and she let go of Caleb’s snowboard. When it was whizzing into the forest, Jayne recalls thinking “oh no, oh no!” They looked for the snowboard, but could not find it. Caleb walked and slid down the mountain about 1.5 miles. We searched the ski racks, reported the board as missing, but by some luck, Luke road back up the mountain and from the ski lift saw the smallest blip of orange sticking out from the snow. It was Caleb’s snowboard! The lost and found guy basically told Mom it was a miracle to find it before spring :)
Day three: Everyone went skiing in the rain. Brrrrrr and soaking wet!
All in all, the snow was mediocre, we ran out of ibuprofen, we slept alot and driver and shotgun could not even hold hands over the paper towels and corn nuts on the drive home because we were packed to the brim with stuff courtesy of no topper and courtesy of Dad’s certainty that he could get a deal on a topper in Fargo.
And yet our conclusion, the trip was still way better than school and work!
Was Luke
A) Ranked Superior for his piano solos at the NDSU Music Festival today
or

Bravo Superior Luke!
